Our 12th Anniversary

I love downtown Portland and try to get down there every now and then, but it seems the further east we move, the less often we get downtown. This past week we had to cancel our plans to stay over night in Portland due to a bunch of jobs Dan got at the last minute. Instead we decided to spend the afternoon downtown and postpone our trip for a week or two.

We started off the afternoon eating at McCormick and Schmick's in downtown Portland. We got there right when they opened and were seated right away. Dan ordered from the bar menu; fish tacos and spinach/artichoke dip with a Margarita to wash it all down. I ordered a Cesar salad and fresh Halibut (my favorite...just wish is wasn't so expensive). Everything was delicious.

Click to see a really cool panoramic of the Willamette River.

Then we left, I changed out of my skirt and heels and into shorts and running shoes and we went for a walk along the Eastbank Esplenade. You can see more photos and a map here. We walked from first street down to Saturday Market, up the steps to the Burnside bridge. We walked across the bridge and down the steps to the esplanade. Then we walked all the way to the Hawthorne Bridge, across, then over to Riverplace, which is one of my favorite spots in downtown Portland. I love looking (and drooling) at all the boats in the marina as well as all those going down the Willamette River.
One of my favorite places to stop is the little ice cream shop where I have been stopping for ice cream for over 18 years. Unfortunately, this time was off limits as I am avoiding desserts in an effort to get back into my fall wardrobe.
We continued walking back, through Tom McCall Waterfront Park, back up to our car. All in all, it was about a 3 mile walk.
Next we drove to the Kennedy School to catch a movie. We saw Spiderman 3...not a good movie. I liked the first two, so didn't hesitate seeing this one...but it was so cheezy. There was one point where Spiderman stopped briefly in front of this huge American flag and Dan and I just looked at each other like...give me a break! (rolls eyes) I don't recommend seeing it...especially on your anniversary!

My camera is still broken, but I hope to have a replacement by the time we go on our over-nighter. These pics are brought to you thanks to Google!

Glad to see that you were able to get out and do something fun on your anniversary.

Downtown Portland looks like a fun place to visit, I wish that I lived closer so that we could do that sometime.

Actually sometimes we live too close, I would much prefer to live out in the country more...well actually on the beach, but your Mother likes living closer to town, so guess where we live.

Well, Bob, since you guys have lived in town this entire time, I guess it is about time to move where you want to, and head down to the beach. And make sure you get an extra room, or guest wing, or guest cottage so that we can visit!
