Jog-a-thon Day

See Natalie...See Natalie Run! Look at that stride. She is a natural! Today was the jog-a-thon for the kindergartners. They got to run for 30 minutes in the gym. I volunteered to help and so I kept tally for the kids with disabilities who were running at the same time as Natalie's class. One girl is blind and is such a sweetie. (I volunteered in the disabled class and worked with her on shape recognition earlier in the year.) The other 3 boys had other disabilities and they all did great. Natalie managed to run around the gym 32 times in 30 minutes. It was fun to see all the kids start off so fast, like they just couldn't contain themselves. Then there came a point where they were all walking and stopping for water. I guess the school record was set yesterday by an older boy who ran 110 laps in an hour. I wonder if anyone pledged to donate per lap on his pledge sheet! That can really add up. I think there is still time to donate on Natalie's pledge sheet if anyone is interested.

I did a bit of running myself. Yesterday at the gym I "ran" for 45 minutes on the elliptical. I averaged a 12 minute mile. Back in the day I used to run 2 miles in that time (13 minutes). I also remember a time when I ran the quarter mile in just under a minute. Seems like yesterday, but man...it was at least 17 or 18 years ago. Is that possible?

Yea! Natalie!!!! Great Jogging. Your mom loved to run when she was a kid.
I'm glad to hear you're feeling better.

Alyssa,
It looks like you're getting lots done. I'm glad you're getting someone to work on the ants. Your dad discovered this morning that they had invaded a metal tin of hard candy. The lid didn't fit as tight as I had thought and it was full of them. We knew they were going 'some' place, but yuck! The candy and ants are gone but the tin survived. Where are they going to show up next?

Hi Alyssa, your mom told me about Natalie's Jog-a-thon and I have been trying to get a hold of you on the phone for the last couple of days with no success. Is it too late to donate to that for Natalie?

I use to run in High School as well, I remember our cross country training involved running up and down the sand dunes... burn!

I think that my best time for the quarter mile was just under sixty seconds, but my time for the mile was a little over five minutes. For some reason I could not keep the pace up in the mile that I did for the quarter.

Now I can probably walk a mile faster than I could run it. The run would probably involve an ambulance ride as well!!

Call when you can.

Love,

Dad

I remember in grade school once running a race in PE, and I somehow ran a really fast time, and everyone was impressed.

However, high school track wasn't that good for my running ego.

Run, Natalie, run!
