Fabulous Fall Friday

Well today was another amazing fall day. Looks like we are finally making up for all those crummy rainy days we had earlier this month.

Pumpkin Patch Field Trip
Today was the Pumpkin Patch field trip at Zander's preschool and since Natalie didn't have school today, she was able to go along too. I wasn't feeling quite up to going this morning and as much as I really wanted to go I was glad that Dan was able to go with the kids. This way he got to have some fun and I got to have a quiet house!

All the kids and parents got to have a hay ride over to the pumpkin patch. They also got to go in the hay maze which was dark, so they all used flashlights to find their way out. For a project, they made "dirt babies," which I'd never heard of, but they are a favorite part of this field trip every year. The kids fill up a nylon stocking with grass seeds, soil, tie in a knot and decorate with a face. After it is watered it sprouts grass hair! I'll have to post a photo after they have "hair."

Here is Zander's pumpkin!

Playing in the Leaves

Natalie dives head first into the leaves as Zander jumps full speed ahead...do you think they were having fun?

The slide was a big hit!

Hayden thought it was funny to throw leaves at me!

Zander had fun stuffing his clothes with leaves. "Look mom, I'm a Fattian."
"What's a Fattian?"
"It's a really fat cat!"

I somehow captured this photo of Natalie in between silly faces and flying leaves every where. She looks so grown up.

Great pictures! The kids are all adorable!

Our leaves just started turning this past week, too. It is so pretty now, but I don't like it when they are all bare. Oh, well, that is the changing of the seasons. I guess we wouldn't have all the beautiful buds in the spring if it were not so!

Even though it is Saturday, I am working 1/2 day to do a special Monster Mash program for the kids, so I better get rolling!

I hope you are feeling better each day.

Those "dirt babies" sound like a home-made version of the good old "Chia-Pets". Sounds like something fun for the kiddos, but where do you keep them?

Say that "fattian" picture of Zander would also make a good "Caturday" photo.

Hope you are feeling better every day, this morning I kind of ache all over, I am ready for a weekend and I hope to get some things done that I have not been able to do because of the remodeling, if nothing else maybe go for a nice walk and enjoy the sunshine.

Glad to see you posting regularly again.

Love ya,
Dad

Sue

Have you had nice weather this fall? I think the blue sky makes the colorful leaves so much more vibrant. What are you doing for your Monster Mash program?

Dad

I think they are just like chia-pets...we'll see how they turn out. Right now I have them each sitting on top of a cup of water with the "stem" in the water to wick up moisture into the soil. They are in the window where they can get lots of sun light...assuming we keep having sun for a while.

The Monster Mash was a blast! I interspersed 4 monster books suitable for toddlers and preschoolers with puppets, a flannelboard story, and monster songs. Then I played 6 more monster songs and we used a different rhythm instrument for each. (We used bells, sticks, shaky eggs, maracas, triangles, and scarves). The kids marched around the library in their costumes at the end, and each one received a goody bag of treats.

The books were: Jeepers Creepers, My Monster Mama Loves Me So, Brave Little Monster, and Snappy Little Monsters. The puppets were Cookie Monster, Oscar the Grouch, and two of the monsters from Where the Wild Things Are. One of the songs was very cute. Instead of "Head & Shoulders, Knees & Toes", we sang: "Horns & Fangs, and Paws & Claws."
The kids loved it.

As I said, the latter half of the program was music and motion, where we shake, and dance, and march around. I played songs like "Monster Mash," "Purple People Eater," and "Puff the Magic Dragon," along with newer ones by Laurie Berkner and Ralph Covert.

It was not hard to prepare, and lots of fun to do!

Sounds like you have a really fun job...Are you tired? I know sometimes when I volunteer for events at Zander's preschool, I am so tired afterwards because everything is so high energy at that age. We did a lot of things at our local library this summer, but you have reminded me to get a more recent schedule of events. Take care and give hugs to Grandma for us!!

That is an interesting question. I am sometimes tired when I come in to work. Immediately before my program begins, I get a rush of adrenalin. The kids and the program energize me. After the program, there is a letdown feeling. Then, I have to repeat the program again, so I get another adrenalin rush. By the end of the afternoon, I am really dragging. It takes a lot out of me, but it is SO rewarding. I am like a rock star in the community. Whenever I run into families at stores or restaurants, the kids come running up to hug me. It is such a rewarding job. (If only I had a nice, or even a civil, boss). Oh well, you can't have everything. I guess no job is perfect.

You do so many fun things with your kids. I can see why you get tired!

I have been keeping Grandma informed of your surgeries, progress, and fun field trips. She loves the pictures! We both hope you are feeling much better.

Love,
Sue
