Kitchen Upgrade: Phase I
When we first moved in, I purposely didn't put anything in these above cabinets because I knew I wanted them taken down. It's been something I've been pretty vocal about and I've even had several of my girlfriends offer to come over and help me tear them down. Well, finally 1 year, 4 months and 3 days later, I finally got those darn cabinets out of my way. Good riddens cabinets...you will NOT be missed!!! No more cupboard door hanging right in my face when I'm trying to cook, no ducking down below the cabinets when having a conversation with someone seated at the table and no more light being blocked by the cabinets either. I was a giddy as a school girl yesterday during demolition!!!

What an amazing difference it makes not having those big dark cabinets hanging down in the middle of the kitchen. I can't even tell you how happy this makes me! My kitchen went from feeling dark and depressing to bright and spacious thanks to Dan, Scott and John (who came over in just in time to help pull it all down).

Yeah, Yeah, Yeah!!!! That is so awesome. SInce painting our cupboards our kitchen is so bright and cheery, I dont even mind that we will be in the midst of kitchen remodel for the next 3 months. Just getting it done makes me so giddy!!!
It looks awesome, and I LOVE the dining room drapes (wink, wink, nudge, nudge!) :-)

You left out a new floor, new windows, might as well get a stainless steel refrigerator while your ate it...etc!
Once you get going it is hard to stop. We started ours so we could get a new floor and that has led to painting cabinets, fixing up the doors, new door knobs, curtains and paint, as well as removing the ugly blue tile from behind the stove! Ugh! We are having to budget a little each month for the things we want to do, and then it is not so overwhelmingly expensive.

How exciting!! Just doing that probably allows you to enjoy being in your kitchen more even if there are other things that you want to do. I can imagine how much better it feels! Very cool!!
Wow! What an improvement! You can see now!!!! It totally opens everything up and showcases that window!

Have you completely gotten used to it yet? Or do you still find yourself reaching up in the nonexistant space where a cabinet used to be?

I have actually gone to reach for the utinsils which used to be in a bucket hanging from the end of the cupboards...now I have to remember that the bucket is now on the stove area!
