Dan and Alyssa's Excellent Adventure

Cabin Fever
Saturday afternoon Dan and I, along with our friends Scott and Debbie dropped our kids off and drove up near Mt. Hood to a cabin near Cooper's Spur. This was our last ditch effort to have some enjoyable free time before the kids start school on Tuesday. We feasted on fondue w/ bread, fruit and veggies, then is was off to the hot tubs for a nice soak as the stars came out. Once we were completely relaxed we went back inside for some games where the girls dominated in a fine game of pictionary. Around 2 am we called it a night and crawled into bed.

Here is the inside of our cozy cabin retreat. There was a really quaint
"vintage" stove, refrigerator combo kitchen area, a living/dining area,
two bedrooms,
2 bathrooms and a loft with 4 beds.

Our Fearless Rafting Crew
Today, after packing up our stuff, we all drove to Hood River for lunch, then over the bridge to Washington where we planned to raft down the White Salmon River. Here are some pictures taken by the rafting outfit, Zoller's Outdoor Odysseys. I will get my waterproof camera developed some time this week.
Back Row: Our guide JD, in the yellow vest, Scott, Debbie, Me and Dan.
The front row was a nice couple from Seattle, Washington.

Here we are hunkered way down inside the raft as we prepare to get
swallowed up by Husum Falls.

This incredible trip was highlighted by a vertical plunge over the legendary 10' high Husum Falls. Here we are going down the class 5 waterfall. Debbie and I are in the back, while Scott and Dan and going head-first into the drink.

Going...going...

And we're gone! It all happened so fast...We were holding on to the raft for dear life...quick, hold your breath!
...and resurfacing! Notice we didn't actually fall out of the raft, but we got just as drenched as if we did.

We made it!!!

In case you are wondering what is going through our minds as we are going down this huge rapid, perhaps these next 4 pictures will help sum up the experience:

We had a great time. We lucked out and got a really great guide. He told us a lot about the local landscape as we paddled down the river and he also gave us several opportunities to surf against the rapids as well as spin 360's all the way down a few of them. It was a blast!

On the way home, we stopped in Hood River to watch the wind surfers and the kite surfers...

With the look on Debbie's face, that had to be at least a 50' waterfall! On behalf of Debbie's dead husband. Good thing I've got 9 life tokens to spare! SEM

We were fools and had plans with some friends of ours until like after 9pm then we had to drive all the way back home from Way Outsville in Washington. What were we thinking??? The kids still needed a bath and I still had to get a lunch made, last minute paperwork filled out and mark all his school supplies! Etc. Etc. I am the queen of procrastination but I make up for it with determination-I work well under pressure! lol
I was waiting for laundry to finish too!
As far as the whole rafting thing! Ummmm....yeah.....no way!!!!!
Looks scary and the fact that at any moment I could be trapped under the boat or roaring water just doesn't appeal to me! I know...I am a big chicken-but that's ok! I'm ok with that! lololol
Yeah, today was Hunter's first day of first grade and I was also anxious. We are at a whole new school this year so all new parents, staff, surroundings, kids, etc! But, when I picked him up with the other kiddos and Grandma he had a huge smile on his face! First grade is good! He said he even made a friend but couldn't remember his name!
Hayden starts preschool tomorrow! I am excited for him! He's all ready with his new shoes and BuzzLightyear backpack!!
How did your day goe??

I'm glad Hunter had a good first day. I know how you feel about being in a new school...we were there last year. Natalie made a new friend too (she can't remember her name either)!

My day was fine, but I spent most of it waiting for Natalie to get home so I could see how her day was. PS sorry for spelling your name wrong in the last reply. My sister in law spells her name that way.

Alisa-that's ok, no big deal on the name. :-) lol

Anyway, I just sent Hayden off this morning for preschool and I am such a sap-I teared up! I just can't believe that my baby is now in school. Ya know we have been talking it up for two years but....here it is! He was so so excited and I am too for him-I cannot wait to pick him up to hear how his day went!!!
So, today it's just me and Hailey for a bit! I guess I could exercise or something couldn't I???
hehehe

Now that's crazy talk! I used my time today to go to the grocery store...don't be too jealous. :0)

Actually, once things get settled a bit, I may have to hit the gym.
