Saturday we all went on a picnic in honor of Dan's brother Andy, who leaves this Wednesday for Kenya. He will be helping set up dental clinics and churches while he is there.

Saturday evening, I had a bunch of friends over for a girl's night. We started the evening off with a
craft project then we got busy in the kitchen. We all brought food and together we made meals in big batches.

Everyone went home with 3 main dishes, a side and a dessert. Here is what we all made: Meatball kabobs, Garlic-Ginger Chicken, Rice Pilaf, Stuffed Pasta Shells, and Fruit Cobbler...Yummy!

Sunday Dan borrowed our neighbor's tractor and tilled the garden in back. I can't wait to get it all planted in the upcoming weeks.

Here is Farmer Dan.

Later Sunday night, my sister, Toni and brother-in law Chucky came over for dinner and taught me how to use my rice steamer to make sticky rice.

Here is how it turned out.

Kenya?? Wow! How did he get involved with that ministry? Has he ever been that far away before?? How long will he be over there? Will pray for his safety.
Ok, so Girl's night...so much fun! Thanks Alyssa for opening your home and planning all that! I am usually the one organizing fun get togethers in my little circle of friends so it's nice to be the one to just be invited and show up for a good time.
I pretty much put all the meals in our freezer but we had the stuffed shells the other night and man were those tasty. Hunter gobbled it all up!
So, is your garden all planted? We need pics of that! :-)
What kind of sticky rice maker is that, I haven't seen anything like that? What did you make with the sticky rice? Did you do the Coconut sticky rice? It is so delicious.
I'm not sure how he got involved with the ministry. He is part of a different ministry in WA, so maybe he heard about it there. He has been to Jamaica on a mission trip, but I don't think that is as far as Africa. He told me it would take 24 hours to get to Africa. I'm so jealous...I would love to go see all the cool animals and help the people out too.
I am addicted to planning stuff, but I really do enjoy it so I'm glad my friends enjoy getting together once in a while too. I am loving having my meals prepared in advance. It made my week go so much smoother. I didn't freeze any. We just ate them all this week. I am fully planning on doing this again.
My garden isn't planted yet. I wanted to wait until the rain dried up a little more so my seeds didn't drown! I will be sure to post more pictures of the progress.
The sticky rice maker is a traditional one from Asia. My sister got it for my birthday (her husband is from Thailand). We served it with Thai seasoned chicken and there were no leftovers. The kids love sticky rice. I've never made coconut sticky rice. Do you have a recipe? Sounds delish!
No, I don't but....now I am gonna do a search.
Shawn and I went out to dinner to Typhoon in Gresham last week and for dessert I had the coconut sticky rice and they served it with fresh mango slices. To die for!!!!! OMG! So so so good!
