Went to the cupboard
To get her poor doggie a bone,
When she got there
The cupboard was bare
So the poor little doggie had none.
This little childhood poem was rattling in my head all last week. Remember when I blogged about challenging myself to cut our grocery budget to $50 a week? Well I did it!...for a whole month...and now our cupboards ARE bare. Or "were" bare. I tried to stretch out our remaing food until the very end of the month and finally went shopping on Saturday so we could have something to eat. It was a great challenge, but I was glad to fill up the refrigerator again. I figure I probably spent about $225 on groceries/household products last month, so I know I helped out our bottom line a little. I think this month I will try to keep it under $275, which is still a lot less than before.
By the way, this illustration is from the Little Golden Book "Old Mother Hubbard" that I remember from my childhood. Anyone else remember this illustration?

That book does look like the one we had when you were Natalie's age. Is it the same one or did you find one just like it?
Last night I thought of something that I was going to ask you next time I talked to you or posted on your blog, but now it has slipped my mind. Oh well!
It is the same book...just found the image on ebay.
