My weekend

Saturday we all went on a picnic in honor of Dan's brother Andy, who leaves this Wednesday for Kenya. He will be helping set up dental clinics and churches while he is there.
Saturday evening, I had a bunch of friends over for a girl's night. We started the evening off with a craft project then we got busy in the kitchen. We all brought food and together we made meals in big batches.
Everyone went home with 3 main dishes, a side and a dessert. Here is what we all made: Meatball kabobs, Garlic-Ginger Chicken, Rice Pilaf, Stuffed Pasta Shells, and Fruit Cobbler...Yummy!
Sunday Dan borrowed our neighbor's tractor and tilled the garden in back. I can't wait to get it all planted in the upcoming weeks. Here is Farmer Dan.
Later Sunday night, my sister, Toni and brother-in law Chucky came over for dinner and taught me how to use my rice steamer to make sticky rice.

Here is how it turned out.

My Cute Nephew, Brandon

Today my sister Andrea came over with Brandon for a photo shoot. Brandon was very cooperative as I posed him in all sorts of positions. He is such a cutie...and who can resist those cute baby parts? After viewing some of the photos on the computer, I made a slide show of the 65 best shots. It was fun to see them all. In some of the photos, Brandon resembles Natalie a bit...and there is one where he looks just like Hayden and Zander when they were babies. It was a fun day and it gave me a chance to get my baby fix!

Lessons Learned from Watching the Brady Bunch

There is no show I watched more growing up than the Brady Bunch. We used to see who could be the first to guess which episode it was going to be. Name that episode. I could usually tell within the first 20-30 seconds...To this day I still love the show...in all it's cheezy Brady goodness! Just last night I caught a few minutes of the TV Land Awards where the Brady Bunch received the Pop Culture award. I must admit, I almost teared up when Ann B. Davis (Alice) got a really long standing O. What can you say about the Brady's they taught us so many valuable life lessons. Here are a few (well 120 to be exact) lessons ...these should bring back some memories and put a smile on your face. Unless you are my husband who just doesn't appreciate pop culture like I do. Little bits of info for you

Well I have been meaning to blog for a few days now. Got a few ideas in my head, but haven't really sat down to formulate anything. Here are some things I've been meaning to tell you:

Happy Earth Day! As you may know, yesterday was Earth day. Normally I don't get all excited about holidays based on political agendas, but this year I am a little excited. You see I just learned our local recycling company is now accepting those plastic tubs. You know, the kind you buy yogurt, cottage cheese and sour cream in.

Growing up, recycling was our secondary religion thanks to my very responsible dad who would scour our garbage cans and remove any potentially recyclable material and place them in the proper container to either recycle at the curb or at a local drop off. No empty toilet paper roll was over looked. Now as an adult I do the same thing...Dan throws a cereal box in the garbage, I secretly dig it out and put it in our recycling bin. So you can guess it just kills me to throw away those plastic tubs. I don't even like watching other people do it...yes, I am THAT weird, okay! Anyway, I refuse to throw them in the garbage, so for the past year since we've moved here I have been storing them, cleaned out, under the sink until I could take them to the proper recylcing facility. Then the other day I read in the local paper that I could now add them to the recycle bin...I was so excited. Now I have so much room under the kitchen sink, I think I might store something useful under there now.

Thanks to pressure from consumers, big companies like Starbucks and Safeway are no longer going to sell dairy products made with rBST, a growth hormone found in non-organic milk. I also heard that California dairy farmers have until August to stop using the hormone or risk a high penalty to have their milk shipped to alternate markets. I tend to buy organic milk anyway, but at least now it will be easier to find. It is also worth mentioning that our own Tillamook dairy hasn't used hormones in their cows for a while now.
Speaking of dairy products...mark your calendars for May 2...Baskin and Robins is having a 31 cent scoop night from 5 pm to 10 pm.

That's all for now!

Fabulous Food Friday

Family Pizza Night

Tonight there is no new recipe, but I thought I would share with you an idea I would like to make into a regular part of our week...Pizza night! Here is my first attempt at making pizza with the kids. They had a great time creating their own pizzas...and of course they tasted yummy too! Tonight we made pepperoni, but I think we may mix it up a bit and let the kids try other toppings. Now I'm off to watch Cinderella.

Picture of the Day 4-20

Last night as we were getting the kids in bed, Hayden decided he was going to play chase as he wasn't ready to go to bed yet. I don't know how it happened exactly, I just know that when I walked out of the bathroom, I heard him start to fall down the stairs. I got there in time to watch him tumble head over feet about 4 times until he stopped at the bottom. It was horrifying because I couldn't get down fast enough to stop him from falling. He just kept rolling down the stairs...every mother's worst nightmare. Well he was crying and his nose was bleeding, but he calmed down rather quickly, so I knew he would be okay. Then when I started to get his pajamas on, he wanted to play peek-a-boo with me which is always a good sign.
Anyway, Zander wanted to comfort him and offered to snuggle with him in his crib. Something he has never asked to do before...so I said okay, thinking they would probably end up annoying each other and neither one would get to sleep and I would eventually end up telling Zander to get back in his bed. Well, after 15-20 minutes, I went in to check on them and they were both sound asleep. It was too cute!

Picture of the Day 4-19-07

I looked out the window and what did I see...
Pop corn popping on the Apricot Tree.
Do you remember that song? I sang it in grade school many moons ago and forgot all about it until Natalie came home singing it last week. I thought it was an appropriate title for this photo...even if it isn't really an apricot tree.

This is what spring looks like at Ernstopia!

After many, many days of gray, wet weather, the sun decided to come out again. I took advantage of the sunshine, not really knowing how long it would last, and walked around the yard, enjoying the springtime flowers. Click on the photos to enlarge...the flowers are twice as stunning up close — especially the Rhododendrons and Lilacs.

Lots and Lots of Weeds
Just a side note. Well, more of a question. Do the plant names match up with the photos on your browser? I use the firefox browser to create my posts, but when I opened up this post with the Safari browser, all the headings were mis-matched. This was troubling to me since I calibrated everything to look good on my computer. However, if you are reading this in a different browser, it may look like a small disaster! Let me know how yours looks. Thanks

My Treasure Boxes

It's time for spring cleaning. So when I came across some of my most treasured things (found when I was cleaning in the garage) I thought I would share them with you.

Baby clothing from my three babies:
In these boxes I have kept their adorable baby clothes, the outfits they came home from the hospital in, the cute winter baby sweaters they wore, the outfit they wore for their 1 year baby pictures, some cute baby shoes, their "baby's first Christmas" ornament, a newborn sized diaper and their birth announcement.
Baby clothing from when I was a baby:
I have three outfits (pink, yellow and blue), my blankie and a moccasin/bootie. When Natalie was a baby, I put her in the yellow dress with ruffled diaper cover. It was fun taking pictures of her wearing my baby outfit. I also still have one of my teddy bears.

Wedding Mementos:
The ring bearer's pillow my mom made from the same fabric my dress was made out of, our unity candle, my shoes, a pew bow, our wedding invitation, Dan's corsage, and the corsage that was pinned to the back of my dress.
