Going up to Seattle

We spent the whole next day in the water park. We were even allowed to use the park after we checked out of our room...so we did!

Hayden had a ball splashing everywhere. He couldn't get enough.

We went down all the slides and floated in the wave pool until we were water logged and ready for our next adventure.

Before leaving we checked out "Scoops" a spa just for kids under 12. It was darling! Here is Natalie sitting on the pedicure (ice cream sundae shaped) bench. The boys spent some time in the arcade while Natalie and I picked out our souvenirs. Next stop Seattle...

Dan was able to get a room on trade that was just 2 blocks from the Space Needle...so we walked around a lot.

Not sure what these cool structures are called but they are part of the science exhibit there. We took the Monorail to downtown Seattle and did some shopping.

Here are the kids and I posing on some of the sculptures near the Space Needle.

We spent an afternoon hanging out at Pike's Place Market. Got some fresh berries to enjoy as well as a nice fish and chips meal. Dan also found some cool Scrooge McDuck comic books to add to his collection. The kids love it when he reads them his old comics.

Andy and Taly drove down to spend the afternoon with us. We went up to the top of the Space Needle. That was fun...I haven't done that in years.

I think we had the most fun trying on all the sunglasses in the gift shop!

One night I stepped out and got some great night pictures of the Space Needle.

Wow, looks like you guys had such a great time. I can't wait to have some fun vacation time with my little fam. It's loooong overdue.
What a great little vacation Alyssa. Was the lodge a suprise for Dan or did he know about it all?

It looks like you had a great time.

Those 'cool structures' were from the science area at the 1962 Seattle World's Fair.

That was a wonderful summer. Among other things, I tasted my first 'taco' at the fair. I spent a lot of time there. What else can you do when you're 16 and are within a bus-ride from there.

The Science Center had a 'video phone' there where you could talk to someone in a different room - and see them on a TV screen. You wouldn't believe the long lines to get in to see these things. It didn't come across as something we wanted in our own homes. Not many women wanted to have to deal with looking presentable just to answer the phone.

Those were the days of Jackie Kennedy's bouffant hair which meant sleeping in brush rollers and taking about an hour to tease and comb out before coming out of your bedroom.... and then there was the 'perfect' makeup - thick black eyeliner and mascara, lots of foundation and powder and a bit of pink covered with a lot of white lipstick - and a bit of eyebrow pencil to make a mole more noticeable.

I told Dan I was going to book a hotel for father's day, just didn't tell him which one. I kind of wanted to give him the heads up on the cost, as it is more than we normally spend on a place...but sooo worth it.

I had to laugh when we were walking around in Seattle. I saw some of those cool clocks you took a picture of...and of course I had to take pictures of them too.

Mom
Funny about the video phone...now we have video cams on our computers and phones that take pictures.
