This is a view (this morning) from our bedroom window, looking out at our neighbor's barn.
This is the big Laurel tree in our back yard. (the one that blows leaves into the pool.)
Here are some trees on the side of our back yard.
Here is a look at the front area, facing south...and the back yard towards the neighbor's fence behind us.
Before heading out, I fixed the kids a warm bowl of Cream of Wheat hot cereal.
Dan took the boys on a sled ride in the field.
...after a while, I took Natalie and Hayden for a ride.
...but they had more fun riding in the Jeep!

Natalie and I tested the snow and then one thing led to another and soon we found ourselves in the middle of a snowball fight!

After a while, Hayden got cold so Dan stayed out with Zander and they both built a cool igloo snow fort.
Due to the snow, Natalie and I had to postpone our girl's day out, so we settled for a facial instead. Later, Natalie and Zander watched Charlie and the Chocolate Factory.

Snow!!!
We just got in from playing in the snow. We're lucky there's a little hill right next to our house the kids can sled on. The bigger kids in the neighborhood built an elevated take-off platform that my kids thought was great! We got it all to ourselves as the big kids walked to the nearest coffee shop. (I didn't start drinking coffee until college.) Then I helped them build a little snowman--didn't want the same "ball" trouble as Dan! Now it's time for hot chocolate!
It takes almost as much time to get the kids all bundled up and outside, as they actually do play outside!
Good times!
That was quite a nice surprise to have snow. It looks like everyone had a good time in the snow. While I miss having snow in the winters like I had growing up I am glad that I do not have to drive around in it all the time. I can always drive a few miles and go play in it when I get the urge.
Sarah would like to know what that cream stuff is on your face? And did you eat any of it? Maybe sometime all us girls can do facials?
Ryan wants to tell everyone he went down the hill on his sled on his tummy! And it was super fun!!!
Love,
Sarah and Ryan
What a beautiful sight - and what fun you all must have had. I am envious of that, in our almost snow-less location. As a kid, I remember waking up at 11 at night, aware that it had snowed. Within a short time, I was dressed and out - as were several other kids. We would have a quick snowball fight in the snow-light of the night and finally head to bed knowing there wouldn't be school - maybe.
Snow has a delightful effect on people and places but not necessarily the school's powers-that-be. Walking a bit over a half of a mile, down, up and down hills, to and from school through the snow was the way it usually worked, wearing thick, knitted, slightly-damp wool mittens (never dried enough from the previous time outside) coat, hat, and tall, black, multiple-buckled galoshes pulled up over our shoes - kind of like these, only not so pretty or so sturdy: http://home.att.net/~stewartjf/servus.html
We girls could wear pants to school - under our dresses - but weren't allowed to put them back on to wear for the long walk home. Something about "getting dressed" at school wasn't good.
Cute Snowman bfast!!! So so cute!
Who wouldn't want to wake up to that funness?
Man, you guys got a ton of snow! Jealous. We got to see it snow but it didn't stick for long. It was pretty though while it lasted.
I like the igloo pics, oh, and the spa pics. I actually have those cucumber pads, bought them in a pack at World Market. How very fun!
Your snow pics were breathtaking, thanks for sharing!
