and the winner is...

Okay, am I the only one left on the planet who doesn't know who won? As much as I love to watch movies and be entertained by Hollywood celebrities, it just drives me crazy...this whole notion of "let's celebrate how great we are, give ourselves little trophies and spend one week before talking about what we are wearing and one week after critiquing what everyone wore, said, or didn't say."
I mean come on people! Now, I am a celebrity junkie and admit I am intrigued by the lifestyles of the "rich and famous," but do we really need all the hoopla that surrounds all these "award" shows? It seems a bit much to me. Every year it seems to get worse. Even the mainstream media is focused more and more covering the all important who's wearing who in high end couture clothing, jewelry, shoes etc.

Can you imagine if I were interviewed about what I am wearing? It would go something like this:
Good evening Alyssa, I see you are dressed in a timeless black warm-up suit.
"Yes, I chose this ensemble because I wanted a clean look. By clean I mean, not loaded with kid goo. Also, they say black is slimming and plus it was on sale at Target...about 2 years ago. My jewelry? I am wearing a one-of-a-kind necklace hand made by the talented Zander with foam beads from the Orient (Oriental Trading that is!)" Sad but true, right?...all you moms out there, can you relate?

Another thing that is driving me crazy is all the play-by-play of the Anna Nicole Smith debacle. For heaven's sake, the poor woman is dead. And don't get me started on Britney...how many times do I have to turn on the news to hear about her shaving her head bald and going back to rehab for the third time in a week? Anyway, I'll get off my soap box. I need to get to bed anyway.

Oh, by the way, my husband just informed me that The Departed won...there now I can sleep!

Amen! I have said over and over the last few weeks how tired I am of hearing about someone who never was a star and her only claim to fame was being outrageous.

As far as the now bald singer(?) goes, she and the hotel heiress has gotten far too much air time. A whole lot more than they have really earned.

My wardrobe would be pretty much as exciting. Red Columbia Sportswear shorts, a tee shirt from you and a pair of Birkenstock's. The only "jewelry" that I wear are a couple plastic cancer bracelets.

The only consolation is that we are probably a whole lot happier than they are.

I agree with both of you to a point and at the same time admit that I like watching the Oscars, and this year was one of the best.
I had no idea what half the movies were (who can afford to go to the movies anymore), except "Little Miss Sunshine" which is excellent by the way. But the show itself was great. Will Ferrell and Jack BLack did a gret Comedy song towards the beginning and Ellen (who I adore, I dont care if she is a lesbian) was very very funny...one of the best presenters so far in my humble opinion.

As for Brittany, all I feel is sad for her and for her children. She has obvoiusly lost it and as a mom, my heart goes out to her as someones daughter. She is such a lost soul who needs Jesus. I agree the media attention is too much, and probably fueling her meltdown. Who among us wants to have a public meltdown. I do pray she is able to come out on top after all of this.

So ALyssa, this is the one time I might disagree with you a little! :-) hahaha. I like watching the oscars, and Ellens after show was funny as well!

My new pet peeve is OPRAH!!! "I am such a saint...I opened a leadership acadamy...I have a special on tv to show you just how nice I am." (said in a sing song, stuck up voice!) Where is the show for countless of other organizations that open simialar facilities and have to scrap the barrell for money just to stay funded???? Huh, oprah, miss high and mighty...

Ok, I hijacked your blog, I will join you in getting off the soap box! Love ya, :-) MWAH

I too USUALLY like to watch the Oscars, but for some reason, this year I was really turned off by them. I think I caught about 15 minutes when Scorsese won, when "the dreamgirls sang," and when they gave an honorary Oscar to Ennio Morricone...but not much more.

I guess my biggest complaint is when this stuff makes the evening news...is this REALLY news?

As for Oprah...I totally get your complaint with her, but I still like her. She is very inspirational on the occasion when I watch her show. I like Ellen too!

Dad, you are right, we are probably much happier. I can't imagine having the Paparazzi hounding me all the time.

Oh, BTW my "beef" isn't with the Oscar show itself, it's with all the hype that surrounds it. Although it is slightly annoying to me that these (some more talented than others), attention hungry "stars" keep finding new ways to award themselves. Where are the award shows for the real achievers...ie doctors who save lives, teachers who enrich our children's lives, firefighters ...you know, the people who make a difference. Oh, no, I feel myself climbing on another soap box...

Alyssa!!! I love that idea!!! Oh I too wish that there was an awards ceremony for the real people making a difference!!!! Wouldn't that be something???!!!!!
I wonder....
we should write to Ellen or something and see what she could do?? Maybe she'd have a little awards thingy for real people making a difference on her show?
I dunno.
I like Ellen too, funny, funny stuff!
