We're Back

Just wanted to let you know that after 7 hours of driving in the car we are finally back home. We had a great time in eastern Oregon as well as in Idaho. I have lots of pictures to share, but I am way too tired to post them tonight. I'm gonna get to bed soon so I will have more energy to blog to my heart's content tomorrow.

SEVEN HOURS? I don't know how you guys do it with all three children, honestly. You are mine and Shawn's heros. I remember when you guys took that road trip to the, oh what was it...the Grand Canyon? And I think you at least had one maybe two kiddos with you?
What is your secret to happy, happy kids AND happy, happy parents on those long car rides? Inquiring minds want to know!

On the Grand Canyon trip we had Natalie who was 15 months old. She was an amazing traveler who slept most of the time. Okay, I'll just stop for a moment and say she was an exceptionally easy baby. We didn't have Zander at that point, but I was pregnant with him, so I guess he was along for the ride (and very easy to care for!) This trip was pretty good. We have to stop about every 2 hours for food, potty break and "get me out of my car seat" breaks. Hayden hates being in his car seat, but he took a pretty good sized nap and then cried for a while when he woke up and was bored. We are planning to drive to Disneyland next year...for that trip I think we will, rent or borrow a lap-top DVD player.

Well, funny you should mention the DVD player...we have one and you are more than welcome to borrow ours. It's great for those long stretches but they don't sleep, too much stimulation I guess.
We were gonna drive to Dland this October but our friends ended up backing out last minute b/c of finances. She just quit her job and is now a SAM again. So, I mean, what can you say? Poor timing, I guess. Plus, my SIL is due with my nephew around the middle of Oct. so, I was a little relieved as well. I would've been really bummed if we missed the birth. Oh, btw, they are naming him Jackson. Isn't that what you were thinking for your little Hayden?
We are now going this Spring with my parents. I think that we may have enough FFmiles to go ahead and fly, we'll see. My family always drove to Dland when we were kids. It was fun, Bfast at Denny's, hotels, rows and rows of orange trees, frequent stops along the way and that always meant a prize from the prize bag. It was a little crowded in the back seat and cranky at times but, good times! There is a new NEMO ride opening up in 2007 where the submarine ride used to be. I am so excited! Gotta start saving those pennies. :-)

Funny you should mention the DVD player...we have one and you are welcome to borrow it anytime. It's pretty great on those long stretches of travel except we've found that they don't sleep b/c of overstimulation. I dunno. Fun for the kids though.
We were supposed to drive to Dland this Oct. with some friends of ours. But they backed out recently due to her quitting her job. She is a SAHM again. She used to work at EHill. Anyway, what are ya gonna say...poor timing I guess. Besides, I am a little relieve to not be going around that time anyways, my bro. and SIL are due with their first baby mid-Oct. So, I would be really bummed if we'd missed it.
The great thing in all that dissapointment of not going in Oct. is that we are going this spring with my parents! So, not only will we have extra hands but may even be able to fly then with FFmiles. I dunno, we'll see. There is a new NEMO ride opening up in 2007 where the old submarine ride used to be. We are all very excited. Gonna have to start saving all those pennies. :-)
Growing up though, my family always drove to Dland. Sure, it was a little crowded with all 3 of us in the back and a little cranky at times but good times...good times. Stops at Denny's for bfast, rows and rows of orange trees, frequent stops along the way and Mom always had a prize/gift bag full of goodies for good behavior that we'd get to reach in and pull something out from.
Have you guys been before?
